Magic Through the Years

from Flat Circles, Sharp Edges
Paper lanterns and steel dreams
Colliding on the breeze
You're never not
Right here right now
There's beauty and magic to be found in absurdity
Wizards, after all, are always
Threadbare and terrible
Time passing
Like droplets joining a stream finding a river
The best aspirations you once had
Now dancing through flames like some peripatetic djinn
Endarkened and illuminating
The flip side of wishes granted
Summoned from underworldly desires
Disconsolate and distracted
They say tomorrow isn't guaranteed
But that's not exactly accurate, is it
Tomorrow is guaranteed but your participation is still to be decided on
Stoneclad hearts trembling under the weight of
Unrealized potential
The misery of mediocrity
Remember the part where you were excited
Not so very long ago
Ancient fiction we enjoy retelling
As we rub the lamp and find further abandon
What's in the bottle
What's there in the bottle
Ask the grinning cat
Dancing and laughing murderously
With the three-eyed raven
Some magic doesn't make any sense at all
